DCCH's Business Development Division offers support services and technical assistance designed to expand the capacities of small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs in the Columbia Heights area. DCCH initiatives have generated increased employment, scores of small business success stories, fiscal investment in major retail development projects.

The DCCH Business Development division aims to assist small businesses by:

  • Monitoring and relaying to businesses the needs and wants of the community through surveys and meetings with Columbia Heights residents,
  • Assessing  marketing opportunities and target markets,
  • Improving the facades of local businesses,
  • Assisting entrepreneurs with thei r business model design ,
  • Focusing on community revitalization,
  • Working to nurture a dynamic economic climate for small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs, and 
  • Helping to find funding for businesses.

We understand the importance of local, small and/or minority businesses and the roles they play in providing economic resources to the community (i.e. jobs to residents and additional resources for shoppers). It is with great pride and care that DCCH’s Business Development Division assists local, small and/or minority businesses into Columbia Heights.

 DCCH provides specialized business skills training and information through a structured curriculum seminar: Advanced Business Learning & Entrepreneurship (ABLE). ABLE is an advanced business training seminar developed to help small business owners take their business to the next level.

ABLE is specifically designed to offer advanced training in business financing, marketing, accounting, business plan development, technology for small businesses, SBA loans and programs, and business expansion strategies. The DCCH Business Development staff coordinates ABLE seminars by partnering with seasoned business professionals who facilitate each session in the series.

 
 
    Sub Grantee Business Groups
 
  
 
 Business Development additionally works with two local groups, the Columbia Heights Association of Merchants and Professionals (CHAMPS) and the U Street Business and Arts Coalition (UBAC). The partnership enables DCCH to assist these sub-grantees in developing ideas and business strategies that strengthen and revitalize the Columbia Heights community.
