WHAT:
A
host of political, business and civic leaders will attend
the groundbreaking ceremony for DC USA, the District’s
largest retail development. Anchored by Target, the $149.5
million pedestrian-oriented retail complex is being developed
on a 5-acre site at 14th and Irving Streets,
NW in Columbia Heights by Grid Properties Inc. and Gotham
Organization, Inc. together with Joseph Searles and the
Development Corporation of Columbia Heights. The developers
acquired the site from RLA Revitalization Corporation,
a subsidiary of the National Capital Revitalization Corporation
(NCRC). Once completed, the three-level, half million square
feet center is expected to produce 1,000 jobs and $12 million
per year in taxes. There will be an underground parking
garage of 1,000 spaces owned by NCRC. The project is being
financed by Citibank Community Development. Tax increment
financing has been used for the parking garage.
