DCCH partnered with the Fairmont
I & II Tenant Association as Development Consultant to purchase
and renovate the 218 unit Fairmont I & II Apartments, located
at Fairmont and 14th Streets, NW. This property is an expired HUD
Project-Based Section 8 apartment complex populated with elderly,
disabled and low-income households.
Under a development contract
with the Tenant Association, DCCH provided the technical assistance
that enabled the residents to exercise their First Right to Purchase
option under a local statute. Rather than being displaced from
the community in which they live, work and educate their children,
these residents will now have the opportunity to remain in Columbia
Heights.
