Columbia Heights as a Magnet Destination:
Neighborhood Jobs Initiative Prepares
for New Opportunities in Customer Service

The drawing power of DC-USA, the Tivoli, and the residential construction transforming 14th street predicts the success of many smaller businesses and organizations who will ride the wave of Columbia Heights' new status as a destination location.

In addition to conventional retail business, Columbia Heights' new high-density residential developments will generate a significant level of demand for basic neighborhood support services: dry cleaners, hair salons, optometrists, dental care, shoe repair, florists, tailoring, video rental, entertainment venues, cafés, and niche specialties such as yoga and fitness facilities.

These emerging enterprises, re energizing the area west toward 16th and east toward the once-flourishing 11th street business corridor, will entrain an unprecedented need for the deployment of individuals with customer service skills. Neighborhood Jobs Initiative is actively developing a new curriculum to prepare Columbia Heights residents for these new opportunities.
